Can I build the house myself?

Yes, the system is very well suited to build your house by yourself. This would require basic training and PolyCare will be obligated to certify compliance to the correct use of the MAS system.

How much does it cost per square meter floor area to build?
The price per square metre depends very much on the size of the planned building, the possibility of constructing it yourself and the type of equipment. For this you have to ask for an exact offer.
How durable is the product? And compared to conventional bricks?
PolyCare blocks are much more durable than conventional bricks also without plaster or paint.
Can I use regular plaster and paint on the walls?
You can use plaster and paint from PolyCare because the adhesion of these products is better. After agreement it is also possible to use ordinary plasters and paints.
Will water seepage not occur if left unplastered?
No. The stones do not absorb any water or dirt.
Is there a building permit?
Basically not. The procedure is the same as for a conventionally built house.
For which countries?
When using the system there are no restrictions. Prerequisite for use is approval in the respective country.
Are there health concerns with polymer concrete?
There are no health concerns or restrictions when using the MAS system.
Is MAS environmentally friendly? Is this proven?
The MAS system is environmentally friendly and can even be used in drinking water protection areas. This has been determined and certified by independent institutions.
Is there planning software available?
A planning software is available and in use. MAS-Easy always calculates the optimal and most efficient use of the elements based on the available planning documents.
Is building with MAS progressive and environmentally conscious?
Absolutely yes. MAS revolutionizes the way we build. It requires no water and can be produced with a wide variety of fillers.
Are the MAS houses barrier-free?
This is mainly due to the planning of the respective construction project. With MAS elements it is no problem to build barrier-free.
Is a basement or a floor slab required for building with the MAS system?
No. To build a standard house, you don't need a basement or floor slab. The use of specially developed baseboards makes it obsolete.
How is the interior construction of the MAS houses done?
MAS is used for planning and building in a 10 cm grid. The interior can be finished with plaster, plasterboard or other materials. In principle, there are no restrictions here.
What will the long-term effect of the weather be on unpainted blocks?

The long-term effect of PolyCare bricks is very good. They are very resistant to all weather conditions even without paint or plaster. PolyCare blocks are much more durable than conventional bricks.

Can I build double storey? What does the floor look like for a double storey?
The system is very well suited for building two-storey buildings. The floor can be made of steel beams and polymer concrete slabs. No wood is needed for the floor.
What material is the system made of?

Polymer concrete. Sand and resin are fused in a chemical process to produce polymer concrete. The material cures within 20 minutes. PolyCare blocks are much more durable than conventional bricks also without plaster or paint.

How fast can you build with it?

It depends on the size of the house. On average it takes between 2 and 5 days to build a MAS elements based house.

What costs do I save on the construction site?

With the MAS system it is important to consider the entire project. Savings arise at different levels. Neither foundation nor floor slab is required. Furthermore, no skilled workers are needed for the construction. Also the use of heavy equipment is not necessary. Unlike conventional building there is also little waste as the number of blocks and their exact positions are provided on Polycare’s building plans.

Which specialists are needed for this?

No skilled personnel are required to set up and dismantle the MAS system. The use is limited to planning and construction supervision.

How many houses can I build per year?

This depends on the production equipment used. One production plant can produce about 400 houses per year in a 3-shift system.

What are the blocks made of?

Polymer concrete. Sand and resin are fused in a chemical process to produce polymer concrete. The material cures within 20 minutes. PolyCare blocks are much more durable than conventional bricks also without plaster or paint.

Is polymer concrete ecological / environmentally friendly?

The MAS system is environmentally friendly and can even be used in water-scarce areas. This has been determined and certified by independent institutions. The manufacturing as well as the construction of the system requires very little water.

HOW DOES THE MAS CONSTRUCTION TECNOLOGY WORK?

The MAS elements have a relatively thin wall. The inside of the elements contain insulation cores. There are five basic elements and some special blocks, such as the sanitary block that makes provision for the fitment of sanitaryware such as basins. The blocks are dry-stacked and anchored between the floor and ring beams with steel rods.

What does the value chain look like?

The value creation takes place on site. By using local fillers and local labour, the major part of the added value remains in the respective application area.

Is the system expandable?

Yes, with the MAS system extensions can be implemented quickly and cost-effectively. This is ideal for building in phases.

Which solutions can I realize?

With the MAS system there are no restrictions in use and application. Buildings of any shapes and sizes are possible.

IS POLYCARE’S MAS SYSTEM CERTIFIED AND ACCEPTED IN NAMIBIA?

Yes. Polycare’s MAS System is assessed and certified by Agrément South Africa as required for building with alternative methods in South Africa and also Namibia. Agrément is an independent organisation that evaluates the fitness for purpose of non-standardised building and construction products and systems by applying performance-based criteria in its assessment procedure. PolyCare’s MAS system has also been tested extensively in Germany and complies with German standards. Furthermore, Polycare’s MAS system is accepted by the City of Windhoek as a permanent structure and is financed by local banks.

How insulated is the product? And compared to conventional blocks?

The houses are very well insulated against cold and heat. The insulation is already built into the blocks and no additional insulation is necessary.

How soundproof are the walls? And compared to conventional bricks?

PolyCare walls are just as well soundproofed as conventional brick walls.

How many storeys can I build? How high can I build?

At the moment our certification allows for single-storey building but in the near future it will be possible to build two-storey buildings.

What will happen to the blocks in case of a fire? Will it melt like plastic?

It will not melt like plastic. Polymer concrete consists partly of resin but cannot be liquefied again. The wall elements of PolyCare have a natural fire resistance class of 30 minutes. With a fire protection plaster from PolyCare a fire resistance class of 120 minutes can be achieved.

Does the product release and dangerous chemicals after construction?

No. PolyCare blocks do not release any dangerous chemicals. Once the material has hardened, it no longer releases or absorbs anything.

Can I share a wall between two houses?
Yes, that's possible. Almost any conventional house can be built with PolyCare stones - even semi-detached houses are possible.
IS A BUILDING PERMIT REQUIRED?

The procedure is the same as for a conventionally built house. Polycare’s MAS system qualifies as a permanent structure and is accepted by the City of Windhoek and is financed by local banks.

Which fire protection class does MAS have?

Classification of building materials: B2 bricks and B1 slabs Fire resistance class: proven REI 30 soon REI 60 REI 120 when test is completed in 2020

Is it possible to build multi-storey buildings with MAS?
Basically, yes. Essentially this depends on the REI class.
Is it possible to create cellars with MAS?
Basement construction is basically possible with the MAS system. Like any cellar, a waterproofing must be carried out.
Which different roof variants are available?

Basically all roof systems can be used when building with MAS elements.

What is the advantage of the MAS system compared to conventional construction?

Quick, easier, faster indvidually, time-saving, less equipment, less waste.

IS THERE DESIGN SOFTWARE AND SERVICES AVAILABLE?

Polycare makes use of specialized design software which calculates the optimal and most efficient use of the elements based on the available planning documents. Existing plan layouts can be converted to the MAS system.

Can conventional construction and MAS system be combined?

Yes, but mixed masonry is not recommended. Partition walls and extensions are easy to realize with MAS elements.

WILL MAS HOUSES LIMIT MY OPTIONS?

This is mainly subject to the planning of the respective construction project. Your options are unlimited when using MAS elements.

IS A FOUNDATION OR A FLOOR SLAB REQUIRED FOR BUILDING WITH THE MAS SYSTEM?

No. To build a standard house, you don't need a foundation or floor slab. The use of specially developed ground beams makes it obsolete. PolyCare complies with all requirements and standards as set by local authorities and financing institutions.

Can the MAS elements be plastered?

PolyCare has developed special plasters that have special fire protection properties in addition to aesthetic embellishment.

WHICH VARIANTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR SUSPENDED FLOORS?

Suspended floors for second storeys can be constructed using beams and OSB panels or from wood, beams and polymer concrete panels.

What design options and prices are available?

We offer standard house designs with optimized cost-efficient layouts. Alternatively our design office can also assist with personalized designs and custom quotations. It is also possible to convert already completed house plans to our MAS system. Contact us for more information and assistance.

How much does one block cost?

Since the MAS system comprises various blocks with different shapes and sizes our costing is based on mass rather than per unit. We offer standard floor plans or can collaborate with you on personalized designs. Contact us for a quotation.

Is it cheaper than conventional brickwork? How much cheaper?

A wall from PolyCare is not necessarily cheaper than conventional brickwork but when considered as an entire project costing is very competitive. In addition, building quality is much higher. The insulation is already applied in the bricks and plaster or paint is not necessary. Due to higher quality material properties the running costs (such as heating or cooling) of a building are lower and contributes to long-term cost savings. Also the construction is much faster. This total package makes a house from PolyCare again cheaper than conventional houses.
